Games

Where did it all begin?

If you haven’t heard of video games before, it is very likely that you have been asleep for the past 70 years or so. Video game development had very humble beginnings, dating back as far as the early 1950s, but during those times, when each new innovation surfaced, the changes that they brought with them were incredible and ground-breaking.

Innovative Minds

With each new model of computer and each new idea behind the software that drove those machines, we have come closer and closer to where we are today. Leaps and bounds are how some may describe how the video game world is developing, but none of it would have been possible without the innovations of all the driven computer programmers before us. The whole topic is truly fascinating.

Tic-Tac-Toe

The very first video games were developed in the 50s as we have already mentioned, but these weren’t screen-based games quite yet. One was for tic-tac-toe and another was for Blackjack, and as new uses and capabilities were discovered more complex games were designed. One of these, for example, was a war game machine that the US military used to base their strategies on.

Screen Time

It wasn’t until the end of the 60s that games were developed to play on a screen, but by that time there was plenty of information about how to structure the games for single player games as well as turn-based, and that was the basis for some of the earliest games that many of us remember such as Pong and Space Invaders. In the years following the introduction of the TV screen as part of the game-playing equipment there were games like Oregon Trail and Basic, and then those led to faster-paced titles like Pac-Man and all the other Atari titles that are now classics.
